Benefits of ethical management

There is an increasing trend to buy from ethical companies because developing your business sustainably brings tangible benefits for both profit and people.

Profit – ethical practice leads to increased profits

The Institute of Business Ethics survey (Webley and More 2003) produced hard data on profit linked to ethical practice. Their study showed that companies with an ethical code of practice had an 18% higher profit margin.  Stop press latest report published March 2008 shows significant increase on training and development on corporate social responsibility from 47% in 2004 to 71% in 2008.

People – higher staff retention and lower stress levels

Research has recorded lower stress management from ethical management practice and a business case for investing in stress prevention activities (HSE 2006).  Low stress levels leads to improved attendance and reduced staff turnover.  Work place stress is cited as one of the biggest causes of employee absence according to the CIPD.
