Pete Daykin, Managing Director
“When I was told that Action Learning sets were part of my Leadership course with Teesside University, I panicked. Listening to a bunch of skinny-latte-supping, dolphin-friendly types banging on about their dull business problems – and not being able to tell them what to do – is pretty much my idea of hell. How wrong could I have been!
Under Tina’s tutelage I worked with a small group of, north eastern manufacturing/techy types for six or so months at a time when my business was undergoing major transformation. Finding a solution was vital.
Action Learning gave me valuable opportunities, space to talk about the challenges I faced and time to think them through in a considered, analytical way. Fellow members of the group helped by probing and teasing out the nuances and implications. I had to commit to a clear course of action. Each and every issue I aired was resolved to my absolute satisfaction by the time of the next set. It was magical…
I learnt much from active participation in the issues of my colleagues… We asked questions and listened. In every case the person who aired the problem had the answer – but required validation or affirmation that they had it ‘right’. Since then I’ve adapted the art of questioning into my working life as a leader, it is working. I am getting there – slowly.
Business can be lonely at the top. Having a small group of people in an Action Learning set worked for me. It is both comforting and liberating in equal measure… Engaging a skilled facilitator, like Tina, to show us and keep us on track ensured time well spent. We appreciated the effortless, light touch guidance, patience and counsel delivered with a mix of experienced wisdom and youthful exuberance.
Having experienced the value of Action Learning I ask “what would be better for you – if you could talk through your business issues with supportive peers who understand, and have experience of problems just like yours?”.”

“I attended a great workshop last week which was run by Tina. It was well organised and she had some great ideas to get people communication and working together to solve problems. It was very effective and I came away with some action points to implement straight away and improve my own business.”
“emc designed and ran a leadership programme which I was involved with for the NHS. I began the programme lacking both career direction and confidence in my abilities. The programme gave me the tools to further myself and my career and boundless support from Tina and set peers has been invaluable. Since completing the programme I have got myself a new job as a Project Manager and a promotion; which in the current climate within the NHS is nothing short of a miracle! None of this would have happened without the support of Tina. Thank you emc.”
Jacqueline Jackson, Head of Family Business Engagement
“It is always a pleasure to work with Tina who is extremely professional and approachable in her manner. I have commissioned Tina to work as an Action Learning Facilitator on our highly acclaimed LEAD programme for a number of years, and would have no hesitation in continuing to commission Tina to work with our business and academic audiences.
I have also had the pleasure of working with Tina directly as part of our Fusion project in London; her developmental coaching style is well balanced with the realities of business and management – very much real world, practical, powerful and a real help to individuals, teams and leaders alike.”
Kayleigh Hemphill, Business School Administrator

“Tina’s approach suited us really well. She listens with empathy and gets to understand goals before she helps you work out how to get there. She is very collaborative in her approach and allows the sessions to take their own direction to a degree, while pulling things back to the key issues to avoid us digressing too much.”
Dr Sue Smith, Assistant Dean
